The Christian missionary movement in China, 1860-1900
Sakmárová, Dominika ; Liščák, Vladimír (advisor) ; Klimeš, Ondřej (referee)
The objective of this Bachelor's thesis is to describe the activities of Christian missionaries in China during the second half of 19. century. Most attention is being drawn to Protestant missions, which are more relevant due to the absence of hierarchy in Protestant churches, unlike in other branches of Christianity. However, Catholic and Eastern Orthodox missions are also briefly mentioned. The main point of the thesis is to describe history of Christian missions in China leading to the situation which arose in the second part of 19. century, causing a variety of different approaches to the problem of evangelization of Chinese people. The thesis describes various ways how the missions were practised and what kind of reactions amongst Chinese people they induced. On the other side, the point of view of Chinese Christians is mentioned, with the side effects that arose due to the presence of foreign missionaries. This leads to the explanation of how the Christian teachings were adjusted to the Chinese culture, and what were the consequences of cultural differences between missionaries and Chinese. The thesis is divided into two main parts, the first, theoretical part is concerned with history of evangelization in China and explaining specific cultural differences causing the evangelization process to be very...
Ambivalence in Jung's Relationship to Christianity
Dobrodenková, Monika ; Halík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Růžička, Jiří (referee)
The subject of this thesis is to summarize and interpret Jung's relationship towards Christianity in its ambivalent manifestations. First, the very psychological concept of ambivalence is discussed, as it was relatively new in Jung's time. The starting points to the interpretation of Jung's relations toward Christianity are both his theoretical works and personal memories, most prominently from childhood, when his stance toward Christianity was formed. Presented material is then assessed on the psychological and theological-philosophical levels. It turns out that the psychological assessment cannot be, in Jung's case, clearly separated from his theoretical opinions, inasmuch some theorist conjecture that all the Jung's theory of the spiritual development is implicitly motivated by his psychological need to cope with his traumatic childhood. For this purpose, several distinct interpretations of Jung's memories from different psychological and religionistic-psychological stances are reviewed. Jung's ambivalent relationship toward Christianity appears to be based in his ambivalent relationship with his parents. On the theological-philosophical level, a tension between his high admirations of Christian tradition on one side, with simultaneous struggle to reform this tradition, often so radically that...

Skladanová, Nikola ; Gelnarová, Jitka (advisor) ; Salamon, Janusz (referee)
The main objective of this bachelor's thesis is to introduce and describe the topic of religious feminism and feminist theology within Christianity and Islam based on two chosen works, In Memory of Her by E. S. Fiorenza and Qur'an and Woman by A. Wadud. In the work I outline the main themes, topics and aims of these feminisms as well as describe their history and development. This thesis examines and analyses the role and status of women within the patriarchal structures of Christianity and Islam, the two biggest world monotheistic religions. Based on my analysis of the two chosen works I will indentify how the key points and main issues of religious feminisms are reflected in the feminist theologies that are introduced by the two authors in their books. The result is a case study of these books which goal is to showcase the specific application of the perspectives, objectives and worldview of religious feminism through the optics of E. S. Fiorenza and A. Wadud. The outcome of this thesis is a closer look and an introduction to the Czech/Slovak audience with the issues, stances and aims of religious feminism and feminist theology in the structures of Christianity and Islam. This is achieved with the help of analysis of the feminist theologies in the chosen feminist works with which the Czech/Slovak...
